Nevermore - for strings (2011)

Duration: ca. 6'15"

Program Notes:

Composed in 2011,  the inspiration for "Nevermore" came from a friend who introduced Cindi Hsu to "The Raven" -- a poem written by the American poet Edgar Allen Poe.

A three-note motif (D-A-G), which holds a personal meaning to Cindi, is inextricably woven throughout the entire piece.  In the second to the last bar, all these three notes will be heard for the last time, yet played for the first and the only time as a chord.  The very last note conveys a sentiment of uncertainty, which fades off into nothingness.
