Impulse - for clarinet and piano (2015)
“Impulse” captures a young woman’s wildly compulsive, unrestrained love of dance. It begins with her irresistible, unreflective urge and burning desire to dance with unguarded, passionate abandon. She leaps about with fiery determination and youthful frenzy. This opening section then resolves into a contrasting peaceful middle section, where our dancer regains her poise and composure and finds momentary tranquility in the piano’s gentle lyrical waves and the clarinet’s elegiac melody.
But, the “fever” for the dance abruptly reawakens with the reoccurrence of the impetuous opening theme that possesses the young woman’s soul, and brings “Impulse” to its driven conclusion.
